Today kicks off one of my absolute favorite times of the year! It’s One Room Challenge time! If you’ve hung around for a while, I hope you’re excited to follow along for another room makeover 🙂
If you’re new, welcome! The One Room Challenge is a 6 week challenge hosted by the amazing Linda over at Calling it Home where designers and bloggers take on a makeover of any space of their choosing in just a few short weeks! This will be our 4th time playing along, and this time, we’re taking on our master bath!
Here’s our past reveals full of before and after pictures, including another bathroom that we took on – and even a garage!
While 6 weeks is definitely a time crunch to get a space fully redesigned, I absolutely love how it challenges us to complete a space and make decisions. Not that I have a hard time making decisions or anything (says the girl who finished the kitchen reno a year ago but can’t make her mind up on accessories to take completed pics).
Anyways, without further ado, here’s a few lovely before pictures of our master bath!
Why have two lights when you can have one? Genius really 🙂 The song Glamorous should probably playing in your head right now after seeing this fabulous master bath. And try not to sing “flossy flossyyy” while brushing your teeth tonight. You’re welcome.
We removed the original vanity when the floors were installed, and have actually not used the space once in our almost 2 years of owning the house, so I’m so excited for it to be completed!
The current design is very true to our 70’s colonial, and it feels so very choppy. The vanity is technically in a nook off of our bedroom, and there are two doors that lead to the shower/toilet area, and closet. Our goal is to make the space feel like one room, which means some demo! Woohoo! We’ve been waiting to swing a hammer around in this house, and it’s finally time! We may even do a celebratory Demo Day dance and pretend we’re Chip’s bff’s and are heading out to go grab donuts and hit up the local antique stores with Joanna #dreamlife.
Okay back to reality. Insert sad face. We are going to start by pointing our hammers in the direction of the two soffits above the shower and sink areas, and take back the wall that separates the two bathroom spaces as much as possible! We’re 99% sure there’s plumbing in that wall, and we’re hoping to work around it. Also on the list to remove- that tile floor in the shower area. If we’re going to do all of this work to combine the two spaces, I’d like the floors to match! We’re going back and forth on options, but I’m heavily leaning towards extending our current bamboo floors (currently in the empty sink nook) and just buying a heavy duty bath mat. More to come later!
For this room, we’ve decided on an industrial meets glam look, and here’s our inspiration board! Because sometimes no matter how well I think I can explain things, pictures make it that much easier 🙂
It’s a lot of neutrals with textures between the subway tile, the wood vanity and floors, the chrome accents and glam light fixture, but we’re going to add pops of navy, and anything else that may say “take me home” at the store 🙂
The biggest items that we will be tackling will be closing off the nook opening to the bedroom with doors (I’m hoping for white french doors!), replacing the shower area floor, and the vanity area with the new tile wall. I’ve never installed a door or tiled like this before, so I can’t wait to get going on it!
ORC Spring 2016 – Here we go! Til next Thursday, when hopefully we can have all of the demo completed and drywall ready to go! Cross your fingers!
Pst – On your way out, be sure to check out all of the amazing submissions over on Calling it Home!
