I am SO excited for today and to share our new space! If you’re here for the first time, be sure to check out our week 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 updates to see how we got to this finish line. If you’re confused about what I’m talking about, head on over and visit the wonderful Linda of Calling It Home! She hosts a biannual One Room Challenge where 20 design bloggers and linking participants (us!) are challenged with completing a room in just 6 short weeks! This is our first time participating, and let me tell you, those 6 weeks fly by faster than you would ever expect! I am so impressed by everyone’s progress and encourage you to see how the 20 designers and linking participants rooms ended up! There are some drool worthy rooms happening!
For the challenge we decided to take on our main bathroom… this one to be exact!
Totally functional but still a 1979’s builder-grade special. Our goals for the room were:
- Paint the vanity
- Paint the walls
- Concrete counters
- Frame out the mirror
- New faucet
- Make sense of the huge closet
- Upgrade the rest of the fixtures (light, toilet paper, shower rod and towel bars)
I’m happy to report that not only did we accomplish that, but M surprised me with new tile floors and a new toilet for my birthday which I think makes the room! The toilet that is. Clearly. Ps. I’m still not done petting the tile yet- It’s my absolute favorite!
As the last refresher, we used this shower curtain as our inspiration…
Now when you walk into the room, the view looks a little bit different…
We absolutely love it! Beware, tons of pictures are below- I got a little camera happy : )
As you can see we wanted to make the narrow space seem more open, and I think by taking the closet door off to create a built-in look, and adding shelving instead of reinstalling the side cabinet doors, we accomplished that goal! The mix of textures between the concrete, fabric, wood and metals is one of my favorite parts and makes the room 100% us!
Thanks so much to Linda again for hosting! The word challenge is definitely appropriate and we loved it! I cannot wait to share sources and more details of each project like the DIY wood valance and the builder-grade vanity transformation (all hail the power of some wood filler, scrap wood and paint!). Until then, I hope you loved the pictures and thank you SO much for stopping by! I hope to see you around more often : )
We’re working our way through a new house, so make sure to subscribe by email (top or right side of the page!) if you want to see other rooms as we complete them!
UPDATE: Check out the details on our wood valance and vanity upgrade!
Hope you have a fabulous day!
