Master Update: Painted Bed

I don’t believe we’ve entered into the master bedroom much on the blog here yet, so here’s the first update on the space! Last time it was shown was during demo day, when we were ripping out the old vanity so the floors could get properly installed. Well, since then, the floors have been laid (same bamboo as the first floor), and the painting is complete!

Here’s a few before pictures as a reminder…

And here’s the progress we’ve made!

We chose to paint the room in BM’s Edgecomb Gray, color matched to Glidden paint, with an accent wall in Hale Navy. Our bed fits nicely between the two windows, but didn’t look right in it’s current black color. The dark wall just swallowed it whole. Doesn’t that sound like a nightmare waiting to happen… So, way after too many weeks of painting it in the garage, it’s finally done!

It’s IKEA’s Hemnes frame and while the steps to paint it were easy, the process was not so fun. So. Many. Little. Spaces.

First, I wiped it down with a liquid deglosser and let that dry. Next, I took the electric sander with medium grit pads and roughed up the entire thing. There’s a headboard, footboard and two side rails that all needed to be redone. Then it was the usual priming and painting. However, this time I decided to try out Benjamin Moore’s Advance paint in cloud white. I am planning on painting the kitchen cabinets with it eventually, and thought this would be a great way to test out the new paint. Well, maybe I did not prime it well enough, or maybe I’m just too thin on my paint-usage-ability, but it took FIVE COATS to fully cover this beast. 5. If the cabinets take that many my kitchen may be done in about 3 years. Fair warning : )

However, it was totally worth it after seeing it done against the Hale Navy wall! Despite my personal battle with the paint, the finish it leaves really is amazing and so smooth. 0 brushstroke marks make it look like it was white all along.

These pictures show our white summer quilt, but our winter duvet is a dark gray, which I think will also look great with the pop of white happening.

So, for progress in this room, so far we have this bed done, we have a few pieces of furniture put into place, but have a long long way to go until it’s done. I can’t wait to accessorize and find some more furniture to put in the room! Then there’s the bathroom… can’t wait to start working on that as well : )

We can just call these the 3 struggle-itis walls. But, these might be on hold for a little while because we’re starting another exciting project right now… be sure to come by tomorrow for all of the details! Pst. This is just one of the dark IKEA furniture pieces I’ve been updating of M’s. Check out more below!

I love the Hale Navy wall and the bed just pops against it – great idea to go white with it!
